When the World Feels Too Heavy: How A Course in Miracles and the Philosophy of Yoga Help Us Come Home to Peace

There are moments in life—sometimes seasons—when the outside world feels like too much.

The news weighs on your heart.

Uncertainty seeps into your relationships.

Grief or worry seems louder than your breath.

You’re doing your best, but everything feels… magnified.

If you’ve felt this lately, you’re not alone. And more importantly, there is a way through.

For nearly 30 years, I’ve turned to two paths that have never failed me—A Course in Miracles and the ancient philosophy of yoga.

Though they come from different traditions, these two sacred teachings meet in a powerful place: the heart.

Both offer a return to peace.

Both teach that the world we perceive is shaped by the lens through which we see it.

And both remind us that we are not here to fight against life, but to surrender into it, with trust.

A Return to Peace Begins Within

A Course in Miracles teaches that “the world you see is but a reflection of your inner state.” This doesn’t mean that outer events don’t matter—it means that how we experience them is entirely shaped by the condition of our mind. If our thoughts are steeped in fear, everything will feel threatening. But if we shift our perception—through forgiveness, through practice, through love—we begin to see differently.

The Course is a spiritual curriculum. Not a religion, not a doctrine—but a daily invitation to return to love as the guide and source of our life. It teaches that the ego’s voice is loud, anxious, always scanning for what’s missing. But there is another voice—the quiet, inner guide—that speaks of stillness, wisdom, and peace. This is the part of us yoga calls Atman—the soul, the eternal witness within.

Yoga, in its truest sense, is also a path of remembrance: “Yoga chitta vritti nirodha” — Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

In my classes, I often describe yoga and meditation not as something we do, but as a way of undoing all that blocks us from who we already are. We breathe. We move. We sit still. And little by little, the noise settles. The world softens. We remember we are held.

Two Paths, One Purpose

Both the Course and Yoga ask us to slow down enough to see clearly. To step out of the chaos of reaction and come home to presence. They give us practices—not just theories—to actually live in a more peaceful way.

  • When your mind is racing: use your breath as your anchor (Yoga) or repeat the mantra “I can choose peace instead of this” (Course).

  • When fear takes over: soften into a child’s pose and offer your worry to the mat—or open your journal and ask, “What would love have me see here?”

  • When grief is too big to carry alone: rest in Savasana, or simply be still and invite a higher presence in—what the Course calls your “inner teacher”—to help you hold it.

This is why I teach. Not because I have it all figured out, but because these practices have saved me, again and again.

When we come together in a class or a private session, we’re not trying to fix ourselves. We are remembering ourselves. We are softening the grip of fear and choosing a different rhythm—one that is slower, wiser, kinder.

Come As You Are

If your heart feels heavy right now…If you’ve been craving peace, or clarity, or simply a safe space to exhale…You are warmly invited to practice with me.

For the next several weeks, we will explore the intersection of yoga and the teachings of A Course in Miracles in our online yoga and meditation classes. You don’t need to be flexible. You don’t need to be “spiritual.” You just need a willingness to return to yourself.

And if you’re longing for deeper support, I offer one-on-one sessions to meet you exactly where you are, with compassion, tools, and guidance to walk this path more gently.

No matter how loud the world becomes, peace is always possible.Come, remember that with me.

With care and light,

Prema 🤍
