The Deeper Teaching of the Throat Chakra

There is a difference between having a voice and living in truth.

We can say yes when something inside us is saying no. We can say I'm fine when our heart is breaking. We can stay silent to keep the peace, while quietly abandoning ourselves.

This is where the deeper teaching of the Throat Chakra begins.

Not simply with speaking.

But with alignment.

In yoga, the throat chakra is called Vishuddha, often translated as purification. It is the bridge between what we feel, what we know, and what we are willing to express.

And before we can speak our truth, we have to become quiet enough to hear it.

Beneath the expectations. Beneath the fear of disappointing someone. Beneath the need to be understood.

There is a quieter voice within us.

It rarely shouts.

It simply knows.

The practice isn't to say everything we think or feel.

Our words carry power.

Sometimes truth speaks.

Sometimes it waits.

Sometimes it says no.

Sometimes it asks us to listen.

The deeper question is:

Does the way I am living reflect what I know to be true?

Because our voice is more than our words.

Our boundaries speak.

Our choices speak.

What we say yes to speaks.

What we no longer tolerate speaks.

Perhaps the deepest invitation of the throat chakra isn't to become louder.

It is to become truer.

Truth without love can wound. Love without truth can become self-abandonment.

The practice is both:

A truthful voice.

An open heart.

A life in alignment.

With love,

Prema
