Sensation vs. Story: How to Feel Without Spiraling

We all notice physical sensations - like a flutter in the belly or tightness in the chest. Almost instantly, our minds jump in, turning those sensations into stories: replaying old memories or worrying about what’s next.
The original feeling gets mixed up with thoughts, self-judgment, and imagination. It’s easy to forget that every sensation is worthy of compassion and gentle attention.
When we welcome our feelings with kindness instead of criticism, we create a loving space within ourselves, one where even the most tender emotions can be held with care.
As we work with the sacral chakra and the affirmation I Am Allowed to Feel, our practice this week is to gently separate sensation from story.
When an emotion arises, pause and notice what you feel without naming it or assigning meaning.
Describe the sense: warmth, heaviness, tingling.
Let your breath soothe you, and imagine each inhale wrapping your experience in compassion. Invite in the possibility that every feeling is worthy of love, simply because it’s yours.
Focus on being with what’s present - no judgment, no repair needed, just kindness for yourself in each moment.
Try this simple practice:
Pause when a strong feeling arises.
Notice the pure sensation - where it lives in the body.
Breathe and let yourself be with it, without needing to fix or analyze.
This way, we return to our own wisdom. With gentle curiosity and an open heart, we gather in community and practice - using asana, breathwork, and meditation to stay rooted in the body and rediscover a safe, loving connection to feeling.
Each step is an invitation to meet ourselves and each other with greater tenderness, remembering that every experience is held in compassion here.
With love,
Prema
