Is Your Heart Asking for Healing?

One of the questions I've been reflecting on lately is this:
How do we know when our heart is asking for healing?
I don't think it usually arrives as some dramatic moment.
More often, it whispers.
In yoga, the Heart Chakra (Anahata) is known as the bridge between our human experience and our deeper spiritual nature. The ancient yogis taught that this center isn't simply about love - it's about compassion, forgiveness, balance, and living with an open heart while staying true to ourselves.
Over the years, I've noticed that when the heart needs a little extra care, it often looks like this:
You feel emotionally tired or guarded.
You're quick to care for everyone else but struggle to receive support yourself.
Grief from an old loss still quietly lives beneath the surface.
Your shoulders, chest, or jaw seem to hold tension no matter how much you stretch.
Joy feels harder to access than it once did.
You long for deeper connection but aren't quite sure how to get there.
None of these mean something is wrong with you.
They simply may be your heart gently asking for your attention.
One of my favorite teachings from the yogic tradition is that we never force the heart open. We create the conditions where it feels safe enough to open on its own.
That's why our practice matters.
Every conscious breath... every gentle movement... every moment of stillness is an invitation to soften what has become tight and remember the love that has always lived within us.
Today, pause for a moment.
Place one hand over your heart.
Take a slow breath.
Then quietly ask yourself:
"What does my heart need from me today?"
You don't have to solve anything.
Just listen.
Sometimes that's where healing begins.
If your heart has been asking for a little more space, I'd love to practice with you this week. In our Living in Love Meditation, Gentle Hatha Yoga, and Yin Yoga classes, we'll continue exploring simple practices to help us soften, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves...one breath at a time.
I hope you'll join me.
With love,
Prema 🤍
